My week in review… the clinic's perspective

In this blog, I just want to give you an update on my clinic… and by thoughts as it pertains to where we're at currently.  So with the arrival of spring (yes, it's finally green here, and temperatures are a bit nicer), our underwater treadmill appointments have slowed down.  We have holes in our appointment book specifically in the water.  However, we have lost one of our therapists (still on good terms, it was just that she was driving WAY too much to make coming to our clinic make sense!)  So now, our remaining therapists have 3-week waiting lists for patients to get in for an appointment!  And I don't like either of these scenarios!!

So firstly, to boost the UWT side of things, we have created a campaign for our Sporting-Dog clientele… a discount of 25% (one per dog) for the month of June, to try UWT as part of a cross-training & conditioning program.  We just sent them out as of last Thursday… so we'll see what happens!  And as for therapists… I potentially have two PTs that have expressed interest in coming on board!  OMG… my prayers would be answered!  Funny thing… at the beginning of the year, my sister-in-law convinced me to create a 'dream board' where you create a pegboard or something with pictures or words of what you want to create for the year.  Now, I'm not usually into that sort of thing, but I did it anyways.  Well, I'll let you in on something… I did put up pictures (not one but two) of physiotherapists working with dogs to represent the calibre of therapists that I would love to have working with our team… so maybe, just maybe, I have manifested 2 really great therapists to work for me!  (Who knows, but wouldn't that be great?)  I should quickly go and print off a picture of a dog in the UWT and paste that to the board to make that fill up too… (IF my 'dream board' actually has these magical powers!)

We also have two new staff members - part reception / part underwater treadmill assistant.  And so far, I am happy that everyone seems to be doing well and a sense of camaraderie is developing nicely!

We also had an intern for a couple of days this week.  It's always interesting having an intern… it's rather voyeuristic learning about other clinics and practices.  So this intern is splitting her time between us and a competitor clinic in the city, and I casually ask, "So how it going at ________?"  She says, "Oh, I am seeing way more here!  They're pretty slow. I've seen a couple of dogs in the UWT, but next week the vet is supposed to have a couple of acupuncture and chiropractic appointments for me to watch."

Booya!  Okay… so we might have gotten a little slow with our UWT this month, but our therapists are up to their eyeballs with appointments, and one of our competitors is really slow!  I guess we're not so bad after all… and I have a plan for increasing our UWT appointments!  (With a different campaign for each month this summer!)

So the moral I am taking away from this is 'keep on doing what we're doing!'

Thanks for reading… I'll give you an update next month to let you know how the UWT campaign worked out!

Cheers,

Laurie
