Tugging

Post by lehughes »

Hi! My friend sent this to me. It’s obvious not to tug with cervical instability but is there actual research that says don’t tug up and down it’s bad for the neck? I have not found any.

“Do you know of any evidence or have any idea if tugging with a dog in an up-and-down fashion is bad for the neck? I have heard that but don’t know if it’s true or not. Basically that you should only tug side to side with them or let them pull back”

Thanks, Laurie! Hope all is well😊

Hi H.

Nothing that I know of in the literature… I just did a quick pubmed and google scholar search and confirmed 'nothing'!
I guess there would simply be pragmatic guidelines to follow. As you say, not with cervical instability.
I don’t even want to comment about direction - Is pulling into extension bad? Nothing tells us this.
So, honestly who knows. If there are recommendations against it, then they are pure conjecture at this point.
