Camera for Heat Detection

Post by lehughes »

Hello there Laurie,

I’m looking for some advise please of the brand of camera you use for heat / thermal imaging of dogs?
And your pressure mat?
We are so behind over here [Australia] and can’t access anything!!
Any input would be great
Thanks
M

Hi M!

The Infrared Thermography… you see more detail with the more expensive (or at least middle of the road) varieties, however, what we found in doing our sporting dog assessments was that our hands picked up MORE and made better sense of what was going on with the dogs than the IR Thermography. So, based on that, I’d stick with a middle of the road variety.
I have a FLIR E40, that I purchased used from a client actually. She sold it to me at about 1/2 price - $2250 CAD. (I’m not sure I”d spend more to be honest.)
And as for the pressure mat we have a PetSafe Stance Analyzer - sold by Companion and/or Kruuze. There is research out there that using 4 digital scales can be accurate as well… but it seems to me that it would require more coordination!!

All the best!
Cheers,
Laurie
