Laser getting too hot

Post by lehughes »

Hi Laurie,
I am treating a doberman for shoulder instability. I am trying to use laser on the shoulder articulation with 10joules per cm2. But after fews seconds the machine ( intelect vet) stops and put out a message that the temperature is too high and maybe we need to calibrate the probe. I tried with a lower dosage (4joules per cm2) but always the same message.
Then I tried it on me at the carpus and all was fine at 10 joules per cm2!
I don't understand. Is the dosage too high? Is because the fur is dark? Do we really need to calibrate?
Thank's for your help!
Cheers!

Hello G,

So the problem IS the dark hair - especially if using laser on a Continuous setting.  You can try putting it onto pulsed (which then dials the machine down by 1/2 power generally).
Or wet the hair before you apply the laser.
This just tends to happen on black, brown, or grey dogs.

One of these two suggestions should make it work!

Good luck!
