Anyone with experience, reading, protocols for interval training in the UWTM for sport dogs? Wondering what folks do and have come up with for this.

There is no research in the area of interval training (or any other type of training) specfically for dogs, on land or in the UWTM. There is handful of material for horses however.
What i typically do for sporting dogs is do a "fitness test" ie, have the dog a a specific height of water, at a specific speed and start with lets say 15-30s s. intervals (depending on the sport you may want to increase the interval time).
I test the heart rate at the beginning (presumed resting) and then at the end of doing lets say 5 intervals (or whatever you choose) then test at the end.
For sports that require speed (like agility dogs) you might want a heart rate up to 70-80% above resting...for endurance the heart rate would be lower.
This is NOT scientific, but adapted from horses and humans...Just a theory i have been working on for several years...When i have more time i plan on really looking more closely at 'fitness testing' in dogs..
hope this helps..

thank you Tania- I appreciate the thought and process you offer. Seems to make sense to follow heart rates and see how they are affected over time with training. Clearly more work is needed.
