Seizures & Vestibular

Post by lehughes »

Hello!
I’m wondering if seizures can be due to vestibular issues in canines? In humans, I don’t remember learning that, and thought that was a neuro issue. So in a dog with history of mast cell tumors that’s having seizures, head tilt and circling to right...most likely vestibular? That’s what a neuro vet said.
Thanks,
L.

Hey L.,

Well, no. Seizures in BPPV / Idiopathic Geriatric Vestibulitis do not go together.
The Neuro vet may be meaning ‘Vestibular System’ and as such mean a tumour on CN 8 as compared to canalithiasis that we would treat.
OR, long shot, but the dog has seizures / is prone to seizures and the vestibular issue is stressing the system… trigger the seizure. (again, long shot!)
