Neuro Cat with L5 Nerve Damage

Post by lehughes »

Hi all,
I have been asked by our local SPCA to help with a spinal case. The tricky part is that is a cat.
Here is what the vet has said:
“Can you come up with some PT exercises for a cat with hindlimb paralysis please? Has some very limited ability to move RH and tail but nothing in LH. Thought is if can get use of RH then potentially amputate LH. was HBC and is possible damage to L5 spinal nerve.”
I have an UWT so also thought about trialing that - when would you start? I am always very cautious with these cases - plain rads were taken but further imaging isn’t an option.
Thanks for any input

Your UWT will be a huge asset. Then add therapy for spine / cord / nerve healing (laser, acup, PEMF). Research shows that gait practice can improve 'Brain derived neutrophic factor' which helps to reduce pain, improve function and reduce neuroinflammation. Best of luck!
