Vestibular case?

I had someone call today regarding a vestibular dog. She has a one year old lab X that since puppy has ‘vestibular’ events daily (diagnosed by regular vet and has not seen neuro). Caused by wind, getting up from lying, getting excited etc. Interestingly the other dogs in the litter have various issues with cranial nerves (one is blind, other is deaf, other has ‘vestibular’). I am thinking this is not a senior dog vestibular thing but probably misdiagnosed (as is often the case) issue with brain involvement. She wants the ‘Epley treatment’ but i have told her i need to talk to the vet first.

There is a part of me that thinks what if this dog has something similar to BBPV and could the ‘maneuver’ help, then the other part a brain issue (dog has nystgmus side to side not up and down).

Have you ever seen anything like this? As an aside the mother of the puppies tried to kill them and they were all badly ‘abused by the mother’ (which i my thought was she knew there was something wrong) Could doing the maneuver cause other issues if it is not a crystal dislodged from the labyrinth.

cheers..
T.

You could do the maneuver without hurting anything… but it’s not likely the issue.
There are other things that you can try… I have an intention to make a video.
I do have one other video on FourLeg (using my dog Layla) - blind folding and walking. Turning head and walking. Balancing blind folded.
Basically just trying to work with the vestibular system in many different ways.
A neuro consult is likely in order.

I agree, neuro consult is necessary and likely not vestibular..
I will look up your video.

Thanks

Vestibular can be more than just the otolith thing.
Could be cerebellar as well.
