Idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia - anything we can do?

Discussion related to the nervous system (spinal cord, brain, or nerves), or other odd neurological issues as they pertain to canine rehabilitation.

Great question!

So I did a google search to look for Physiotherapy Treatment Trigeminal Neuralgia. (I remember learning about it way back in physio school... but thought I'd see what I could find online.)
Here's some:
http://www.hkpainsociety.org/Newsletter ... icle_2.pdf
http://www.londonpainclinic.com/neuropa ... neuralgia/
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2797593/

I'd also try doing your own google search on YouTube - I saw videos on massage and osteopathy techniques.
Beyond that, think about Pain Management and your Pain management tool kit - i.e. laser, & manual therapies.
Also think of desensitizing the area (which is talked about in link 2).
Acupuncture...

So yes, there are things you can do. Instead of thinking: "I've not been taught what to do specifically for Trigeminal Neuralgia", think "What is at the root of the problem and what tools / knowledge do I have to address those things?"

You've got this Joanna!!!

Keep up updated!

At liverpool/ leahurst they were doiing some research with percutaneous nerve stimulation for head shaking in horses where the suspected cause was trigeminal neuralgia or dysfunction of some kind. It occured to me that if you could use TENS why would you have to insert an electrode needle through the skin. Since its non invasive it might be worth trying TENS with tiny pads.
