Contracture

Post by lehughes »

Hey Laurie! Hope all is well with you!
I’m seeing a Dane today with this going on in the HL.
Some pretty wicked contracture from what I read in the record. Any experience with this presentation? He’s been fitted for braces/splints already. I’m wondering if shockwave would be beneficial. We don’t have it here but I could try and find it for the owner.
Any suggestions?

Hey K!

Okay... so why does this dog have a contracture? Gastrocs Tear? If yes, then it's going to be hard to sort out.
You can either try to slowly stretch it out with some sort of progressive splint (with a foot component)... or use a boot with padding to protect the foot in its 'new' position.
What did you find when you saw the dog?
