Stifle OCD

Discussion related to the musculoskeletal system - injuries, post-op, lameness, extremity issues (joint, muscle, tenon, fascia...), axial skeleton issues, etc., as it relates to canine rehabilitation.

Stifle OCD

Post by AgileBeagle »

Patient is a 5 month old German Shephard from working lines. Owner is a high end agility competitor and had big plans for this puppy. Mild lameness and medial buttress on the L stifle. Lameness present for about a week prior to the attached radiographs. Idexx radiographic consult diagnosis bilateral OCD with L stifle joint mouse. (BTW- the image is inverted, the joint mouse is in the left stifle)
Owner is trying to get in for orthopedic consult but as things are these days, it is taking much longer than desired. Obviously the joint mouse needs to be removed.
My real concern is the long term prognosis, even for being an active pet, no less a performance dog. Has anyone had experience with stifle OCD?

Hey Jan,

Okay... so, OCD is not good. Not good for sport for sure. And limitations for active pet.
As you know, lifetime joint supplements, lifetime therapy, on/off meds with activity.

I would not make big plans for the pup... happy pet, yes.

Sorry...
