Bulging Epaxials - response

Hi,

I have found this an interesting read as i see lots of dogs with this and asked the opinion of physiotherapists and vets, they have said it is bulging iliopsoas muscles due to a weakness in the hips. I have seen this in lots of dogs with Hip dysplasia. I have attached an image to see if we are talking about the same thing.

I appreciate your opinion on this.

Thanks

L.F.

That’s them!!!

The problem with the theory of it being iliopsoas is that the spine is between the iliopsoas and these epaxial muscles… so it can’t bulge up there.
I’ve seen it in dogs with good hips, as well.

And a dog with bad hips can also have a lumbar spine issue brought about over the years.

They’ve had me scratching my head for years! So this is the best theory I’ve come up with over the years of trying to ‘fix them’, ‘assess them’ etc…

Definitely not iliopsoas - if it is muscle, perhaps it is iliocostalis, but not iliopsoas.
