Pes Varus on a Dach

Hello.
I am new at your member website.
But your at not new to me:-)

I hope I can ask you for help.
Pes Varus has been on dachs in scandinavia for a while. Do you have a protocol for treatment with out operation?
My own dog was svimming her hole life, she had pes varus, and also patella lux 1..
Never any problem or lameness. and lived until she was 12, heartsick the last 2,5 year.
I had a very good veterinær. She is a good friend of mine.

I trained her on low cavaletti and standing on fitpaw bone, and swimming.
When she was young i also used a vitafloor vibration floor.

Now, in regards to your question…
Since it is a growth issue, there really isn’t anything more you can do… other than what you did with your own dog.
If the Pes Varus is not causing pain or dysfunction, then just strengthen.
If the problem seems to be causing joint issues or has a significant impact on the dog’s ability to move, then surgery is likely best.

I wish there was something more magical I could tell you for treating these cases, but when it’s a case of a premature closure of a growth plate secondary to a genetic anomaly… there isn’t much that physio / rehabilitation can do to change that!
