Ribs

I’m sorry, but you are my 'go to' and feel free to say you don’t have time to answer but you tend to know stuff at your finger tips so…..

I saw a dog yesterday that one of the surgeons has been trying to deal with for 6 months. Bilateral shoulder pain. Stiff straight gait, worse on the L. rads nothing 6 mo ago, recent CT enthesiophytes in supraspinati and impingement of biceps tendon with mild bilateral tenosynovitis. Tx’d with bilat IA depo in the shoulders.

Here’s my question, of course, when I saw the dog, bilateral pain with abduction, pain with palpation of the medial aspect of the shoulder joint AND extreme pain with palpation of the ribs bilaterally from about T1-4. I have found a lot of rib pain in many shoulder patients and I don’t find they improve until you address that. My question is if there is any literature about manual treatment of the ribs or the way the ribs can affect the shoulder function and pain level. Of course the surgeon asked for literature. I’m sort of in that, I know what works kind of thing.

By the way, I am calling this bilateral MSS. What i haven’t decided is whether to put this dog in hobbles or not. Do you use hobbles a lot?
