UWT for patellar luxation... ??

Discussion related to the musculoskeletal system - injuries, post-op, lameness, extremity issues (joint, muscle, tenon, fascia...), axial skeleton issues, etc., as it relates to canine rehabilitation.

UWT for patellar luxation... ??

Post by lehughes »

Hi Laurie,

I saw a video from a caninerehabilitation Hydro paws Ltd. Its about a dog with
Bilateral luxating patella´s and hind limb weakness.
They say if hydrotherapist is not in the treadmill with the animal they can not correct frame or gait.
In the video the physio is standing still and the trehadmill is not moving, and the dog steps over the therapist
Feet.
Are we doing this the wrong way, if we´r not in the treadmill in this manner?
Is it better then to practice poles on the ground and skip the treadmill?
Seems odd to me but maybe it isnt the best for these diagnosis.
I see the treadmill as a conditioning of the hole of the dog, and practice poles for example I use
To give the owner as part of homework…
Would be happy to hear your comments.

I think that people who don’t know better make up rules like this. I think there are several ways to work the legs.
And walking in water, stepping over someone’s foot isn’t really a specific exercise.
I also think that UWT works the whole of the body and isn’t a ‘specific’ exercise to help patella luxations.
We really only get IN the UWT with neurologic dogs.

I hope this help!
