Post-op protocol for Luxating Patella?

Discussion related to the musculoskeletal system - injuries, post-op, lameness, extremity issues (joint, muscle, tenon, fascia...), axial skeleton issues, etc., as it relates to canine rehabilitation.

Post-op protocol for Luxating Patella?

Post by K9Rehab »

Hi everyone,
Just got a call from a new surgeon in town who wanted to make sure I was going to be around to carry out the rehab before he booked a surgery date for a 10 month old Yorkie with a luxating patella (obviously the other vets in the clinic have been pleased with my work so far). Now the key is I have to impress him with my proposed treatment plan and timelines.... Haven't treated one of these before, would love to know what your best advice is, what has worked, what hasn't, how early to start..... Thanks!

I've always loved post-op MPL cases!!! They're usually a breeze!

Honestly, you can follow a post op protocol similar to the post of CCL protocol I use, and gradually tag in more exercise ideas from the Conservative management of Medial Patellar Luxation protocol.

Have fun!
Weird things that go wrong are typically so very atypical that you wouldn't have been able to prevent them anyways.
