I am treating a 7 month old terv puppy with bilateral elbow dysplasia. She has had bilateral elbow surgery to remove fragments and at my urging just went back to have PRP injections. The surgeon is not wanting any laser therapy due to open growth plates and now with the PRP.

Can I use PEMF, we have the Assisi loop, immediately post PRP placement for discomfort? Acccording to their website I can but would like another opinion. She had the injection yesterday and is showing discomfort post injection. She is my 1st PRP patient and I would like to be comfortable with my recommendations and work well with the surgeon.

Laser post PRP. I have 2 class IV lasers - Companion and Cutting edge. My understanding is I can "dial down" the class IV to a III, at least with the Companion. How long do you wait to use the laser post PRP injection? I assume on a mature dog it is ok to use the laser on other areas of the body for compensatory problems just avoid the injection areas or do you wait on the laser all together for a period of time?

Quickly referencing back to my own review... yes, you can laser. PEMF can actually stimulate the release of the growth factors.

To create the paper and the video, I went online to see what I could find based on human protocols.
Research on the subject doesn't exist.

I had been using the information in the article you had previously posted. Is the exercise restriction different when the PRP is in a joint.

Sorry Nancy, just seeing this now.
I would just be a little bit slower about pushing advanced weight bearing exercises, because you are trying to allow for chondrocytes to implant & grow.

Just an addendum on your link Laurie,

FWIW, there was an abstract at last year's VOS looking at ESWT on PRP and found that it increased growth factor release. At the same conference, another paper speculated that the poor responders may in part due to inadequate growth factor release. Since then, I have been sporadically following up my PRPs with ESWT, but my numbers are small and I can't say that I've noticed any affect. But at least there is logic to doing it anyway.
