Re: DM updates?
There was a conference presentation on using laser on the DRG to increase life expectancy. Full paper is currently undergoing literature review.

Re: Grade 4 MPL, teeny tiny yorkie....
What does she hope to accomplish with the brace? It won't reduce the patella, nor will it increase ROM. Is she just trying to prevent secondary cruciate disease?

Re: Joint mice in the biceps tendon sheath
Also not a surgeon (at least one who drives a scope), but I doubt you can get too much of an answer without having a scope driver see the dog and images first hand. Cutting the biceps is easy, but cleaning the groove is much more difficult. Depending on the location of the fragments, they might not ...

Re: Elbows
It's unfortunate that the owners declined CT, as that will hedge your bets with determining who should or should not proceed to surgery. Also, if a dog is lame enough to merit surgery, there is no advantage in waiting, as that will likely only result in worsening OA that reduces the post surgical Px...

ADDENDUM: I just went to google scholar, and entered "meta analysis photobiomodulation" and clicked on the top 3 entries... all of which concluded a positive effect.

I briefly considered uploading photographs of the pages and pages of references in this text, but decided instead to just upload a link and suggest he buy his own copy: https://www.vitalsource.com/en-ca/products/laser-therapy-in-veterinary-medicine-ronald-j-riegel-john-c-v9781119220183?duration=90&g...

Re: Elbow pain
Hello, I am not aware of any helpful elbow brace, and I would strongly suspect they would make the situation worse, especially if there are radiographic changes in the shoulder already - if the shoulder is already aggravated secondary to guarding from the elbow OA, then adding the weight of a brace ...

Re: Estrus and SIJ Irritation?
Because the waters aren't muddy enough already... The final answer may vary according to breed/genetics. It is standard practice amongst whippet owners not to compete their dogs for a few weeks following estrus because of loss of conditioning. It is something that I can personally attest to; that fo...

Re: Conservative Cruciate
Hello, Apologies if I’m the vet you talked to earlier, and this is a repeat conversation (I remember recommending a TPLO to a physio last week, but I believe that knee was already unstable enough to no longer be considered a partial tear). 85% of partial tears become surgical within 3 years, with mo...

Re: Gracilis injury in a flyball dog
I agree with LEH's comments about re-injury. The only thing that I would add is to make sure the owners are educated in performing gracilis stretches themselves - both as part of the warm down ritual after exercise, but also as an early diagnositic tool. ie: if the dog does not have a full PROM grac...
