Re: Rhodesian Ridgeback carpal hyperflexion/supination

To clarify: can she extend the carpus but chooses not to at stance, or is the carpus physically contracted into that position? During the course of working up the shoulder, what imaging was done on the elbow and how long ago?

Re: Delayed Pelvic Limb Use

With that additional information, low grade implant infection just jumped up a few levels on my differential rule out list.

Re: Post Op Achilles tendon repair

How dropped? If it is anatomically lengthened so much that the dog can't maintain a normal stance, then I consider that to be a surgical problem. If the changes in stance are mild, then I would be stem celling and orthotically bracing plus rehab it (did I just invent new verbs?). If regen med wasn't...

Re: Delayed Pelvic Limb Use

There are a certain number of cases where pain persists until the implant is removed, even if all looks well on radiographs. Given the distal location of the plate into the joint, I can totally buy into the idea that it is the source of pain. As LEH suggested above, do what you can to determine if t...

Re: Post Op Achilles tendon repair

Agreed - if all had gone well, the hock should look posturally normal at this stage. Ultrasound would be the best option to pinpoint exactly what has gone wrong and by extension, what else (if anything) can be done.

Re: Shockwave

I'm also a fan of radial ESWT (although I use a different machine than LEH does). Because I am often using it on arthritic geriatrics, it is particularly important for clients to not need injectable sedation each time, although I do like pre-appointment gabapentin/trazadone to make it less stressful...

Re: Older dog - hind leg extensor spasm or what?

I unfortunately could not view the video, so am going on the verbal description but just wanted to throw out the thought that we occasionally see rigidity/hypertonia issues secondary to hyperadrenocorticotrophism induce myopathy. How are the liver enzymes looking?

Re: Popliteal enthesophytosis

Thanks. I figger'd this was the same case. We had a preliminary phone consult before she made the drive and discussed the pro's/con's of ESWT, regen med etc.

Re: Popliteal enthesophytosis

Tendinitis or tendinopathy? Do you have a copy of the radiologist's description of the findings? Was their fluid in the area? Tissue disruption? Osteophytic change or enthesiophytic? How do the tendons of origin of the gastroc look? Depending on the answer to the above questions for me would determi...

Re: DM updates?

Oops - details. Details help. Time between DM diagnosis and euthanasia was 11 months in controls and 38 months in the treatment group. Unfortunately, although I have read a rough draft of the paper, I have signed an NDA, so am uncomfortable being forthcoming with greater details until it is published.
