Re: THR questions
Hi K, So first off, it sounds to me like you are really doing right by these dogs. Not sure I can add a whole lot more! But, let me see what I can come up with (???). THJR - I’ve decided, I’m not a big fan of this as a surgery. I get it… but so many complications! So, “thumbs up” to everything you a...

THR questions
Hi Laurie, I have a couple of patient groups that I have been reflecting over case management with in order to improve my practice. I would really appreciate your thoughts/wisdom/suggestions here. THJR - I have seen a few patients with complications following this procedure. For some of these patien...

So, MPL - I chuckled at your comment about the MPL dogs tending to be ‘low touch tolerant’! Rather funny - and your right, often true...

MPL questions
Hi Laurie, I have a couple of patient groups that I have been reflecting over case management with in order to improve my practice. I would really appreciate your thoughts/wisdom/suggestions here. MPL - Many of the breeds I see with this condition are dogs that are not particularly amenable to a lot...

Re: Old fracture and elbow dislocation in 7 month old puppy
Hello again Wendy! Indeed... you are abundant with weird elbow cases! How lucky! ;) Okay... so here's a case where, based on my past experiences... I don't think there is a wrong answer or way to proceed. 1. Sure, you can pass this pup off to a surgeon and see what magic they can do. BUT, this will ...

Re: Elbow fracture
Awww.... Poor Chad! Okay... So my thinking goes first to Pain Management. I would want to ensure that this dog has a good multimodal pain management strategy inclusive of pharmaceuticals and whatever else the own is willing to put on board - Fatty Acids, CBD, Magnesium... Then, we look at what is th...

Re: Excessively flexed toes
Okay... THAT looks a bit neurologic. My head is thinking peripheral nerve... which has to be affecting radial nerve, but just distal to the elbow. Regardless of actual diagnosis - I'd say "no" to agility. One other idea: Can you flex the carpus with the elbow straight? (i.e. avulsion of the ECR tend...

Re: Excessively flexed toes
I'd still go through each and every tendon... But, if you can't find something to work on / stretch out / strengthen / protect... then, the prognosis isn't great for this dog to compete in agility. Maybe low impact stuff - just for fun, but if the dog is already doing face-plants when landing a jump...

Re: Excessively flexed toes
Adding an additional reply. Is it only the one foot? If yes, how is sensation... there is a weird Springer thing where they lose sensation and then start to traumatize the foot. Doesn't look like the right scenario. So, my other thinking is lack of opposition to the Flexor tendons... So test the fle...

Re: Excessively flexed toes
FASCINATING! I've never seen this before and on a quick google search, I'm not getting any hits for what it might be IF it's a congenital thing... So, I can't give you anything definitive to go on. Perhaps a vet could pipe up if this is a 'known thing' and I'm waaay off based here. Here's what I wou...
