Re: Type 1 IVDD

The only other addition I would make to your prevention plan is "Traction". "All small long backed dogs should be hung." I believe traction to be preventative for disc issues, and that chondrodystrophic dogs should be receiving traction on a regular basis as part of their home management/prevention ...

Re: Type 1 IVDD

Well, see what you think about the brace. There is zero research to back up that it can prevent a disc. We don't anything like that in humans... the opposite actually. Movement is therapeutic. I am reserving my endorsement of using the back brace preventatively unless it is proven to work for that p...

Re: Type 1 IVDD

Hey Juli, So, the holding back / creating resistance is exactly as you seem to understand it. Check out Video Training 88: Treadmill and the Neurologic Dog. I do a whole pile of things in that video that could work for your little dog. I am hoping to teach at STAAR next year. I don't know what cours...

Re: CCL tear and possible meniscal tear

And on the laser front - yes there are other companies... but I'm also a Spectravet fan. There are some 'human' portable ones - a professional would need to order it FOR the client. I've done this once. I hear a lot of UK physios rent out / recommend Photizio as an option. I've looked into it. It's ...

Re: Type 1 IVDD

Hey Juli, Okay, let me think / type in 'real time'... So, the primary healing has occurred at this stage, BUT via neuroplasticity, we know that more gains can be made. I would continue with the laser (pain and stimulation of the spinal cord) - HIGH doses to penetrate to the depth you want. i.e. you ...

Re: CCL tear and possible meniscal tear

Hi Juli, Well, you could try a round of treatment (i.e. modalities to the joint, and you could try the distraction-rotation technique for meniscal tears). (Video Training 9 is the one regarding treatment of meniscal tears.) However... this is a case that I would recommend surgery. At this point, the...

Re: Cerebellar Hypoplasia & Cortical Vision Impairment in a Cat

Oh my goodness! This sounds exciting to try to treat! I guess, I'd also try laser therapy (aka photobiomodulation) to the skull and brainstem. Then, perhaps treadmill walking - to encourage stimulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and to work on patterning. PLEASE keep me / all of us posted....

Re: crooked carpus post ulnar osteotomy

Well now, this is an interesting question. I do have thoughts! So, 1. An ulnar osteotomy doesn’t always fix the problem. In fact, I have never seen it TOTALLY fix the problem. I even saw one dog that had 3 surgeries on each leg, and the vet had managed to convince the owner that the dog would be 100...

crooked carpus post ulnar osteotomy

Hi Laurie I have another strange question, if you don't mind me asking. I have been working with the Guide Dog Association on a litter of Golden Retrievers. Six of the litter underwent bilateral ulna osteotomies following routine X-rays at 4 months of age. They were confined to strict rest for 6 wee...

Re: MSI/MSS

Is there anywhere that you can jog her down hill?
I know - sounds crazy... but it might be a way to force ACTIVE shoulder extension functionally!

(I also like walking on a treadmill backwards, but it's less 'natural'!)
