Re: Chiari Malformation & Syringomyelia

Hi S. Now, as for these dogs, from a rehab perspective, it’s two pronged. 1. Root of the problem - brain stem / nervous system 2. General health (HEP, UWT, in clinic exercises) 3. (for me as a non-vet) would be to ensure other things, such as Meds, have been discussed / prescribed / taken as per the...

Chiari Malformation & Syringomyelia

Hi Laurie, I work with a Cavalier rescue, and so we tend to see a good number of COSM/SM dogs (presumptive diagnosis typically). Usually, they are geriatric with little to no known previous history and varying degrees of clinical signs. The goal with most of these guys is conservative management, wh...

Thank you! I will look into this!
I've heard of it, but never have taken any courses in Feldenkrais!
Merry Christmas to you as well!

Re: Dog with Neospora

These videos help for sure! Okay, so when she finally walks, I can see the hips and stifles being held in flexed positions. My next question is Can she straighten the stifles and What is her passive hip extension like? She can actually get into a sit, so she has the ROM to fully flex, but not the po...

Re: Arthrogenic muscle inhibition

You could very well be onto something in regards to the clicker training and Neuro rehab. Why not? You won't know unless you try it. There is potential for sure! Re: Acupuncture / pressure / acupoint stimulation... Well, if we look at what happens, you can justify doing any type of stimulus to the a...

Re: Dog with Neospora

Hmmm... So, some additional ideas: Maybe some dry needling into the fibrotic muscle (i.e. using acupuncture needles). I just had it done on my Traps and it was magical! I've done it a little bit on dogs... but I'm thinking it has more applications that I'm currently using it for! Maybe after needlin...

Re: Arthrogenic muscle inhibition

Hey Juli, Great questions and I am enjoying your thought processing. So, the thought of clicker training is really interesting! I think you are likely on to something! It would be an alternate way to work "External focus of attention" and "neurocognitive training". (PS for those reading this that do...

Re: Dog with Neospora

Hey Steve, So, this sounds like a complicated one! I've treated 2 neospora cases in the past... but neither of them had rigid contractures! So, I would break this up problem list, and then goals... Problems: Fibrotic shortening of muscles / ROM issues Mobility issues (lateral to sternal in particula...

Re: Moderate to severe hip dysplasia in 8 month old pit bull

Hi Wendy, Poor pup! So, I would just want to ensure that there was no other area of pain for the dog (i.e. lumbosacral, or SIJ)... Other than that, I would laser. I think you would be hard pressed to deliver a high enough dose that could penetrate to the growth plate level of the femur on such a reg...
