Re: Cruciate Braces... what's the update?

Thank you for this response Laurie. I agree... I think there's some benefit to the OTC, but there are so many out there these days, I was hoping for some actual first hand experience. PS. Searching Cruciate, Cruciate Bracing or Bracing doesn't work on the forum, that was what I tried first - comes b...

Cruciate Braces... what's the update?

Good morning everyone, Searching for "cruciate bracing" isn't work as the search terms are too common! I feel like I would love an update on what everyone is using as it seems that there are a lot more braces popping up online. I frequently have customers asking if a certain brace they found on amaz...

Re: Dynamic Taping of digits?

Laurie, I saw your reply to this was from a few years ago... what are your thoughts now? I have a vet who is referring an 8 week old puppy with digit laxity and wondering whether taping would help.

Re: Chronic shoulders - to brace or not to brace?!

They are not. Wish I could refer to you David but it's quite a drive from Kimberley. Calgary is our main specialty referral source just because of the distance. This surgeon also does the majority of the TPLOs that I locally see.

Re: Chronic shoulders - to brace or not to brace?!

Yes Laurie... new surgeon just starting referring to me so it is a fine line. Cortisone and hobbles really didn't make sense to me, but thought maybe I was just missing something. In our human world cortisone often gives you enough of a reprieve from pain that you can start working on neuro-muscular...

Re: Achilles Rupture

Any experience bracing a cat with a full achilles tear Laurie? That just came to me today.... the few ruptures I have come across have been surgically repaired. I have one right now, partial tear in a brace from k9 orthotics and it's working pretty well for this particular dog (rather senior and slo...

Re: Chronic shoulders - to brace or not to brace?!

Thank you Laurie... honestly it's nice to just know I'm not the only one who finds these cases frustrating. This is a relatively new surgeon who is all of a sudden referring a lot more to me so I want to be on board with what she is recommending. I actually did convince her to allow for low grade in...

Chronic shoulders - to brace or not to brace?!

Hi everyone, I seem to have a steady caseload of chronic shoulder lameness (>6-12 months) these days. Most start out with the vets recommending rest and Nsaids (which doesn't typically work) and once they come to me I start on modified activity, manual therapy and strengthening. There have been some...

Re: Bilateral cruciate tears; non-surgical

Thanks Laurie... and to clarify I'm not pushing for braces, the owner really is (a close friend of his had a very positive experience with bracing his dog). We've started back to square one with strengthening exercises and the dog is already showing signs of improvement in his mobility so I'm hoping...

Re: Post Op Achilles tendon repair

Thanks for the recent post on this David, it reminds me to check in with this owner and see how the dog has been doing. Pre-Covid in February they were just starting to gradually let her do some off-leash activity in the yard. I don't know if the surgeon did injections, I'll look into it. I had anot...
