Senior Dog Neuropathy

Hello all I would love to start a topic on senior dogs, and the "hind end" weakness many of us see. All to often i get referrals with dogs that have been diagnosed with OA of hips or knees (or both) and this is the "cause" of the weakness and their referral to me. When i do my patho functional exam ...

Re: New York Mobile Rehab Questions

i would agree with Laurie, the old dogs are so great to work with and there is so much we can do that many vets appreciate. If i had my choice i would only work with olds dogs and others with muscle/tendon injuries...These are the ones many dismiss, or can't figure out, and we CAN help in so many wa...

Re: MSI rehab--swimming?

Another thing to think about with swimming.. i have video taped many dogs and recored joint angles during swimming of both hind and forelimbs. Some dogs tend to do "almost" breast stroke like with the forelimbs when swimming...this would be contraindicated with a dog with MSI. If you can tape the do...

Re: Bilateral cruciate repairs - Need advice

When i look at this dog, from my experience, i see issues from laxity of the tarsal joints that may have caused the CCL tears, and as you mention the luxating patellas (Although i feel the luxating patellas are related to the tarsal hyperextension?!). If it were my patient, as laurie mentioned, i wo...

Re: UWTM

There is no research in the area of interval training (or any other type of training) specfically for dogs, on land or in the UWTM. There is handful of material for horses however. What i typically do for sporting dogs is do a "fitness test" ie, have the dog a a specific height of water, at a specif...

hobbles

I have several dogs with various degrees of MSI with concurrent supraspinatus injury (and many with mild elbow issues). With these cases i typically find that RSW, LLL exercise RX the dogs do well (as well as figuring out what causes the source of the injury) and helping the elbow issue. One particu...

Re: Non weight bearing exercises for hamstrings?

Hi Laurie, i looked on Doggleggs website, i did not see any weights. The reason i am asking as i am in the midst of designing some weights for dogs...easy to use and the weights can be adjustable (for small to large breed dogs). Do you think this would be something others would be interested in? Tania

Re: Roading for Field Work Lab

Hi Denise, just a few thoughts off the top of my head...you may want to think about using a harness similar to those used in Sled dogs...they fit well, and do not restrict any movement. also ensure that the dog only does biking 2-3 x per week. (a bike is preferred as it can't go too quickly unless y...
