Re: 5 month old Golden with Myopathy of UKO suspect congenital vs degenerative
Thanks very much Laurie- good to be on the right track! And I see your point about functional/active work over stretching/passive work but still watching the trend. I have had a 2 cases in the past where loss of tissue extensibility became an issue very quickly- faster than I would have imagined, so...

5 month old Golden with Myopathy of UKO suspect congenital vs degenerative
Hi all- This sweet puppy about 3-4 weeks after adoption started to want to walk less and had progressive weakness in his hinds, falling, eating lying down. Decreased tone hinds and proximal weakness greater than distally. Strangely kyphosis lower thoracolumbar spine and he has a definite preference ...

Tramadol blog
Hi Laurie and readers- So I just read your blog on Tramadol, and In my experience with my own pets and patients, Tramadol is a good medication for post-surgical pain and managing pain related to osteosarcoma and other end of life pain management issues, severe boney type pain or acute injuries, but ...

Re: Hairy dogs in the UWT
What about asking them to get grooming before they can begin UWTM? I fortunately work in a place that also does grooming- so it helps! But I think that's a reasonable request. Especially if there is poop matted in....

4 yo black lab/Bassett mix w/ R hind amp and old s/p TPLO on L!
Hi all- this dog is new to me, and I was thinking about core stability, teaching owner ROM and stretching and STM, especially for his fronts, and 1/2 way through eval learned about the old (relatively...he is only 4!) TPLO. I would welcome any thoughts around preventative bracing for the L knee for ...

Re: Cart to assist rehab in grade 5/5 hemilam, 10d post op??
correction-my hemilami is 10 weeks post op and I have been working with her now for about 5 weeks! She continues to make slow gains, and I am beginning to think that if we put her in a cart allowing her to weight bear with support, she may continue to progress and "rehab" out of it, or at least have...

Re: Cart to assist rehab in grade 5/5 hemilam, 10d post op??
I have a similar dog right, working with her about 10 weeks now, got into rehab a bit late post op. She has pretty high HL extensor tone, looks great in the UWTM, but on land defers to some bunny hopping, intermittent Hl weight bearing and "steps" using a Help-em-Up, and side scooting. She has a lot...

Re: Immune mediated carpal hyperextension
Great thoughts L- thank you!
I will look at the bracing options you mention. I agree that splinted walking will help the whole body, get the forces to line up a little better, and offer some proprioception input.
I will let you all know!

Immune mediated carpal hyperextension
Hi all- I have a 7-8 yo Cavalier KC with immune mediated poly arthritis, who presents with a pretty good carpal hyperextension issue. I have started with some basic ROM and gentle stretching as his extensors are snug and he has weak flexors. Also put him in the UWTM holding him just above the raised...
