WHAT DOES A PHYSICAL
THERAPIST DO?

Physical therapists examine and treat patients
in order to detect, correct or prevent bodily injuries, dysfunctions, disabilities and pain.

Physical therapists utilize manual therapy techniques (mobilizations, manipulation, massage, stretching and range of motion), modalities (ultrasound, laser, electrical muscle stimulation, etc.) and exercise prescription to optimize the healing, functioning and well being of all patients. As well, owners are always educated in a home program to expedite the healing process and prevent future recurrences.

Ideally every dog should have an orthopedic evaluation by a physical therapist once a year. Early detection and treatment of orthopedic abnormalities can alleviate pain in the affected joint(s) (including the spine) and can prevent associated injuries.

Animals benefit just as well from this type of treatment as do their human counterparts.
